Twenty-five years ago, or even as recent as 15, artists have to save enough money to go overseas to exhibit their work to get them known outside the country.
Even so, fame is restricted to that country alone - whether it is Europe or in the United States. Opportunities are rare and far in between and very much restricted to the depth of one's pockets.
With the coming of the internet, the fortune of artists are about to change - if it hasn't already.
This database is my contribution to Malaysian watercolourists and the people behind the great works in the aqua medium - regardless of whether they are formally trained or self-taught.
This is a self-funded endeavour and I make no guarantee that all information listed here are up-to-date at all times. Some of the information were given to me and the rest I gather during my research.
Nevertheless, it is a starting point for me and for local watercolourists, wherever they are or what their background is.
Feel free to browse through the database and get to know some of them. Contact me if you know of any artist whose name has not been mentioned here. Rest assured that the omission was because I had no access to the information about them.
For artists, please feel free to suggest anything you feel that may get you nearer to your goals of promoting your work worldwide. Click here if you wish to contact me.
If you have found this useful, let your friends know. If not, let me know. If you are interested in Malaysian watercolours, kindly proceed to the main site by clicking here. Feel free to look around.
Thank you,
Swee.
Frequently Asked Questions
To use the database - How does it work:
Artists are listed in Alphabetical Order. To browse for a particular artist, click on the alphabet representing the artist's name.
To join?
Send me your biodata. If you want to make my job easier, send it in HTML if you know. If not, in Word will do. Or even whatever format you find it easy to email. If you like, include your photo. People like to get to know artists and how they look like. You may include some of your recent work, digitally scanned, 400px wide. Too big and it may clutter my mailbox or I may not be able to download it. Smaller sizes allow for more pictures.
How many images to send?
Three or four of your latest work, or those you wish to promote. If you have a website, give me the link, I will do the rest.
What else?
Include your contact details, ie. emails. These are for readers to contact you directly to purchase work or other matters. I have a day job and I may miss mails if I don't have the time to check emails.
What do I ask for in return?
Nothing. It's all free.
Are you sure?
Okay, maybe just let your other friends or business contacts of the existence of this site. That way they can assist helping you as well when they mention your name or your work to other watercolour art lovers.
Let's work on the concept of helping ourselves. If we help each other promote our love for watercolour work, I think we have a good chance of lifting the status of Malaysian watercolours one notch higher than it already is today.
So, help me and others like you in this endeavour.
